Tourist information

The Tourist Information Centre is located in Almerimar, very close to the Marina. There, we’ll inform you about everything you can see and do in El Ejido and in the province of Almería. You can also contact us by phone or send us an email or a WhatsApp during our opening hours.

Getting to El Ejido

The main communication route is the Mediterranean motorway (A-7), which crosses El Ejido and is complemented by a system of secondary roads which links the towns as well as the tourist areas and the shopping centres. 

The bus station is located in the centre of El Ejido. The station connects El Ejido with Almería and nearby towns, as well as with other important cities such as Madrid, Granada, Málaga o Sevilla. The nearest train station is the Almería Intermodal Station, which connects the province with the rest of Spanish cities, either by coach or train. Almeria airport is 40 km away from El Ejido. The airport is coonected to the Almería Intermodal Station by a local bus line. From the Almería station you’ll find buses to El Ejido.

Getting around El Ejido

Other than getting around by car, El Ejido has a system of local buses that links the bus station with the other towns and shopping areas. The fare is €1.35 per journey. Tickets are purchased in cash when boarding the bus. Lines 11 and 21 run from El Ejido to Almerimar. In addition, El Ejido has a 16 km bike lane that partially connects Almerimar and El Ejido. We encourage you to use it, especially to get around Almerimar.

Climate

Thanks to the influence of the Mediterranean sea, El Ejido enjoys a stable, mild climate with little rainfall. The average temperature is 27ºC in summer and 15ºC in winter. In addition, El Ejido enjoys 3000 hours of sunshine a year, allowing you to enjoy the beach and several activities throughout the year. In summer, the sea water remains above 20º C, a very pleasant temperature for swimming.

The wind is a characteristic trait of the area and makes it the ideal destination for sports such as surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing.

Areas

El Ejido is a large municipality that is divided into several population areas. The most interesting for tourists are Almerimar, Balerma and El Ejido.

Almerimar

Almerimar is a tourist town built around the marina. You’ll find all kinds of services and infrastructures. Almerimar gives you the chance to stay right on the beach, venture into a Natural Park, play golf or enjoy water sports. In addition, in Almerimar you’ll find a wide range of restaurants and leisure venues.

Balerma

Balerma is a town with a seafaring tradition that has been converted into an important place of intensive agriculture. Despite this, the sea is still very present in its people and its gastronomy. Do not miss the opportunity to eat fresh fish or seafood in one of the many bars and restaurants that you’ll find in Balerma. Its main symbol is the Fortified Tower, located on the promenade.

El Ejido

El Ejido is the administrative town that gives its name to the entire municipality. It’s a modern town with all the infrastructures and services and a wide range of restaurants. It’s also the main shopping area. Despite being administratively young, El Ejido has a history that dates back to the prehistoric period. You can learn about this history by visiting the El Ejido Archaeological Collection, located in the Auditorium

Day trips from El Ejido

El Ejido allows you to discover other areas of the province of Almería, without having to stay the night elsewhere. The city of Almería is about 30 km away and is perfect for a day of cultural sightseeing. The traditional villages of La Alpujarra in Almería will allow you to breathe clean air and enjoy nature, as well as savour its gastronomy. The Tabernas Desert is an essential visit for anyone who comes to the province of Almería, you’ll feel like you’re a part of a spaghetti western film. Finally, don’t miss the are of Cabo de Gata, which is uniquely beautiful. Enjoy its unspoilt beaches or discover its small fishing villages.
